What is an LED TV?
Television viewing has undergone huge developments and advancement since the days television sets were invented. The usual CRT television sets with big cathode ray tubes have been replaced by much portable and space saving devices. After LCD and Plasma televisions the latest in the line is the LED television sets. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and the television sets are much similar to the LCD televisions except for the fact that the LED televisions use an array of LED’s to light up the LCD display unlike the LCD televisions which fluorescent tubes screens to light up the LCD screen.
It had been just a couple of years that this LED technology is being used in television sets and it has been a real success. Further research works are still being carried out in the field of LED televisions and they are yet to improve. These television sets have defined the viewing experience in a whole new way and with probably the best viewing experience till date. The LED televisions are further a step ahead than the LCD screens and are even lighter and thinner than them. The LED TV’s also prove to provide a much better picture quality than the LCD or PLASMA screens.
The working principle of the LED TV’s is not much different than the LCD Televisions. The LED TV’s can be considered to be a better modification of the LCD television sets. The LED TV’s have minimized the drawbacks of the LCD TV’s. The fluorescent tubes in the LCD televisions were space consuming and heavy and sometimes they do not provide sufficient color quality. These drawbacks have been replaced by the LED televisions which use an array of LED’s to provide the backlight. They are more space saving and hence the LED TV’s are thinner and lighter even than the LCD television sets. The LED’s are capable of displaying the purest blacks and whites and hence provide a viewing experience which is far better than the LCD or PLASMA television sets.
There are two types of LED TV’s at present in the market. One is the back lit one which receives the back lighting through the numerous LEDS that are placed at the back of the television panel. The other one is the edge lit one which receives the light from the LED’s that are placed along the edge of the television sets. The edge lit LED TV’s are further thinner than the backlit ones since in the latter one it consumes some space at the back to place the LED’s. The edge lit ones are also less power consuming and prove to be more efficient in power saving.
Another advantageous feature of the LED television sets are that they can also be used as a computer screen and you can watch your favorite videos on it that are stored in your computer.
